Southampton have a large contingent of players out on loan at the moment.

For some, this has been a solid experience that has set them up to have more success when they return to St Mary’s, earlier this week we had a look at Fraser Forster’s season so far, and he’s having a bit of a resurgence at Celtic.

However, one man who isn’t making the most of his chance out on loan is Mario Lemina.

The former Juventus midfielder was deemed surplus to requirements at Saints this term, and he was duly shipped out on loan to play the 2019/20 campaign with Galatasaray.

It’s fair to say that the Turkish League isn’t up to the same standard as the Premier League due to the riches that are available to almost every team in the English top-flight, but despite playing at a lower standard his performances have seemingly regressed.

A look at the stats shows the Gabon international is actually playing worse than he was last season.

The midfielder is making fewer tackles, fewer interceptions and more fouls, and he isn’t contributing going forward either failing to find the net or craft an assist all season.

This was Lemina’s chance to force his way into Ralph Hasenhuttl’s plans by shining over in Turkey, but the fact of the matter is that he’s actually taken a bit of a step backwards from where he was last campaign.

Unfortunately, the 26-year-old isn't showing that he deserves to have a future at St Mary’s, and this could be the end of the line for the former Juventus man.

Hopefully, he returns to the south coast in the summer with a refreshed attitude and a point to prove in pre-season because he’s simply not doing enough during his temporary spell away.

In other news, Southampton need to ditch one transfer policy.
