Southampton fans have taken to Twitter to tear into Jannik Vestergaard following the 3-2 defeat to Tottenham in the FA Cup.

Ralph Hasenhuttl's side found themselves a goal down after 12 minutes when Jack Stephens diverted Tanguy Ndombele's strike into his own net, before Shane Long found an equaliser for the Saints in the 34th minute.

Danny Ings then curled a beautiful effort past Hugo Lloris into the bottom corner in the 72nd minute to hand Southampton the initiative going into the final 15 minutes, although Jose Mourinho's men fought back to win after goals from Lucas Moura and Heung-min Son.

Vestergaard - who was only introduced in the 40th minute following an injury to James Ward-Prowse - went close in the second-half when Lloris palmed his header over the bar, although he couldn't help provide enough of a sturdy foundation at the back to help his teammates progress into the fifth round.

As a result, a few Southampton fans on Twitter have hammered him for his display in north London on Wednesday evening...

To kick off the reaction, Dave Coutinho (relation to Philippe unknown) went in hard on the Danish centre-back, saying that he "isn't worthy of our squad" - ouch.

Then, SuperSaint said that the club should've took the £15m for him, seemingly referencing a report from The Sun in January which stated that Leicester were planning a £15m move for the former Borussia Monchengladbach man.

Elsewhere, these two fans also expressed a desire to see Vestergaard leave the club.

'Southampton News' said that he "needs to be sold" after stating that the second and third goals from Tottenham passed the 27-year-old by.

Freddie than added that the Southampton No.4 is "rash", has "no pace" and is a "liability", before also saying that he should've been sold to Leicester when the club had the chance.

Lastly, Dylan branded Vestergaard as a "tragedy in motion" - harsh words indeed.

Who on earth is that?!?! Can you name all of these obscure January signings?

Ash then mentioned that it "all went downhill" when the Dane was subbed on in the 40th minute.
