Southampton fans have taken to Twitter to hail James Ward-Prowse, following the 2-0 win over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Tuesday evening.

Following an injury to Cedric in the 21st minute, the Saints academy graduate was forced to spend the rest of the game at right-back, as Yan Valery was unavailable with a viral infection - also meaning that he was up against Wilfried Zaha, with the pair involved in an altercation at half-time in which the Ivorian poked Ward-Prowse in the face.

Nevertheless, the former Manchester United winger remained on the pitch, although he may well have been better off going home such was the Southampton No.16's dominance in terms of shackling him.

The 25-year-old won four aerial duels against Roy Hodgson's men, and also made five successful tackles - more than anyone else on the pitch managed to record.

Additionally, Ward-Prowse made three interceptions and three clearances, while also playing one key pass and winning two freekicks off the Eagles.

It truly was an impressive showing from a man who was filling in at an unnatural position of right-back.

Let's see how the Southampton fans on Twitter reacted...

To kick off the reaction, these three Southampton fans piled the praise on Ward-Prowse while all of the trio also credited Ralph Hasenhuttl for his role in transforming the midfielder.

Sam said that the Saints man has "come along so well" under the former RB Leipzig boss, before adding that the Englishman has been underrated "for too long".

Elsewhere, Jonathan simply wanted to express his appreciation for Ward-Prowse, before mentioning that his "rise under Ralph has been nothing short of phenomenal".

Also, David said that the Austrian "has turned JWP into a proper, proper player".

Elsewhere, Stevie said that Ward-Prowse "has definitely come of age" whereas Tom added that "Palace couldn't handle him" - given how wound up Zaha appeared to be at half-time, that statement seems true.

Lastly, Andrew simply called the midfielder a "hero" before saying that he loves him - aw.
