Will Smallbone made his Premier League debut during Southampton's 2-0 win over Aston Villa, which he posted about on Instagram.

This comes a little over a month after he made his maiden appearance for the first-team, when he scored during a 2-0 FA Cup win against Huddersfield Town.

There was to be no spectacular moment for him this time around even if he did see a first-half effort deflect onto the post, but he was understandably satisfied nonetheless.

The 20-year-old gave a good account of himself during his 80 minutes of game time, winning one aerial duel and having one shot that was blocked, but he will be looking to improve upon his 72% pass success rate.

He received plenty of congratulatory comments on his post, but there was also one from teammate Jack Stephens poking fun at him, suggesting that he needs to "try and relax a bit for the next one".

Considering Smallbone was picked ahead of Oriol Romeu to start with, there will likely be more opportunities to come for him, giving the midfielder a chance to act on Stephens' advice.
