Spaniards scrap talk of Liverpool & Man United raids

Real Madrid’s assistant manager Paul Clement has rubbished rumours that the Spanish giants are chasing Liverpool and Manchester United pair Raheem Sterling and David de Gea.

Los Blancos, the reigning European champions, are one of the planet’s biggest football clubs and are regularly linked with some of the world’s best players.

And reports in recent times have suggested that De Gea and Sterling are just two of the latest names on their agenda following their impressive starts to the season for their respective clubs.

However, in an exclusive interview with the London Evening Standard, Clement – the Englishman works as Carlo Ancelotti’s No. 2 at the Bernabeu – said that such rumours are wide of the mark:

“Real Madrid are always going to be linked with some of the best players and also some of the best emerging young talents.

“My understanding at the moment is that the club and manager’s very happy with squad of players – we haven’t got a big squad.

“But it is a squad packed with quality and there are no current plans for ins and outs.”

Clement has been linked with moves back to England to manage Premier League clubs in recent times, however he says that only very attractive offers would be enough to convince him to consider leaving Real:

“If a really attractive offer came and I felt it was an opportunity was too good to refuse of course I would listen to the proposal.” He said.

“That hasn’t happened and I’m very focused on my job here and we’re all working very hard here together to try and retain the Champions League and to win the league here in Spain.”
