Atletico Madrid have identified Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris as a possible replacement, should Chelsea recall Thibaut Courtois from his extended loan spell in the summer, according to the Daily Mirror.
Courtois is close to completing his third consecutive season on loan with the La Liga giants, which reports suggest is likely to be his last.
Chelsea look set to finally recall him at the end of the season, leaving Atletico with a huge void to fill.
Courtois has established himself as one of the best young goalkeepers in the world during his time in Spain, and Atletico believe France international Lloris has what it takes to replace him.
The Frenchman has been outstanding for Tottenham since signing in the summer of 2012, but has previously spoken of his desire to play Champions League football.
Atletico would be confident of securing his services, should Tim Sherwood’s side fail to make the top four.
Tottenham currently occupy fifth place in the Premier League, just three points behind fourth placed Liverpool.
Lloris was recently linked with a shock move to Arsenal, after Gunners striker Olivier Giroud claimed the pair had discussed a potential switch while on international duty with France.
Lloris was quick to deny the speculation however, labeling Giroud’s comments as ’embarrassing.’
