Spurs fans want Lloris to play but not be captain against United

Tottenham’s club captain Hugo Lloris was arrested and charged with drink driving in the early hours of last Friday morning, and Spurs fans on Twitter were hoping that he would be stripped of the captaincy after failing to set an example.

Spurs travel to Old Trafford to play Manchester United on Monday evening having won both of their two games so far against Newcastle and newly promoted Fulham.

Lloris has apologised publicly for his arrest and The Guardian reported that the club would deal with the extremely serious matter internally.

The 31-year-old shot stopper captained his country to World Cup success this summer in Russia and would have been hoping that Mauricio Pochettino’s side could progress from their third place finish last season, although he may now have put his place in the starting line up at risk with his behaviour.

Tottenham fans on Twitter were undoubtedly disappointed with Lloris and called for him to be stripped of the club captaincy, although most wanted him to keep his place in the side against United. Jan Vertonghen and Harry Kane would be the most likely candidates for the captaincy if it was taken from Lloris.
