It may still be early days, but both Sunderland and Spurs enter today’s clash looking for their first wins of the season. The duo have picked up two points apiece from their opening four matches, but it’s the Black Cats’ inferior goal difference that leaves them below their London rivals ahead of kick-off.
Alas, we could be in for goals this afternoon, with both sides having gone with attacking line-ups. Spurs chief Mauricio Pochettino will be hoping that Harry Kane’s two goals on international duty will translate to domestic football, but perhaps the most intriguing aspect is the inclusion of late summer signing Son Heung-Min. The South Korea international has received clearance to play following his move from Bayer Leverkusen as should add pace from wide.
Sunderland have a proven source of goals in their ranks, with Jermain Defoe leading the line. The former England international used to ply his trade with the Lilywhites and has a habit of scoring against his old sides – of which he has a few!
