Liverpool star set for £14m Sunderland switch

Fabio Borini is poised to return to Sunderland after a £14m fee for his services was agreed with Liverpool last night, according to reports from Sky Sports.

The 23-year-old Italian spent last season on loan at he Stadium of Light, where he impressed as the Black Cats avoided relegation and featured in the Capital One Cup Final.

His 10 goals won over Gus Poyet, who has made little secret of his desire to snap up the silky attacker on a full basis.

Borini has been strongly linked with a fresh chance at Anfield, but now reports suggest that a fee to take him to the North East has been settled.

The youngster is said to be keen to return to Sunderland to continue his development after enduring one difficult season at Liverpool.

The forward was Brendan Rodgers’ first signing in 2012, but he struggled for first-team action duo to competition in the Reds’ squad and injury problems.

Borini was a youth star at Chelsea, whom he left to join Swansea on loan – working under the Anfield chief in South Wales.

From there he joined Parma and was loaned to Roma, where he impressed enough to earn his only cap for Italy.
