West Ham and Newcastle in many ways have had contrasting seasons. While the Hammers have comfortably taken to the Premier League amid their return to the top flight, the Magpies have been the season’s under-performers, spending much of the year looking over their shoulder at relegation rather than trying to match or improve finishing in 5th as they did during their 2011/2012 campaign.
But both will have similar aims next season; to break into the top half of the Premier League table. Although both clubs have considerable talent on their books already, they will see the summer transfer window as an opportunity to bring change and bring in enough quality to propel their league positions upwards.
In order to give them some ideas for summer signings, we’ve compiled a Top Ten of bargain transfers that will benefit both clubs without breaking the bank.
