Tottenham Hotspur will travel to Barcelona on Tuesday night knowing that a win would guarantee their spot in the knockout round of the Champions League.

Indeed, Spurs currently sit ahead of third-placed Inter Milan on the head-to-head record, and Mauricio Pochettino's side will be desperate to pick up a result.

The Chalkboard

Barcelona are Barcelona. And to be honest, there is little chance of Tottenham keeping a clean sheet. Luis Suarez will not play on Tuesday night, but Lionel Messi is in wonderful form and enters the match off the back of scoring two stunning free kicks against Espanyol at the weekend.

It is difficult to imagine Tottenham nicking a 1-0 win, meaning that they will probably need to score at least twice in order to stand a chance of picking up a positive result.

It is tough ask against Barcelona, but there is absolutely no question that the Spanish giants can be exploited in a defensive position. Indeed, they have conceded 19 times in La Liga this term, and do give teams chances at the back.

Gerard Pique has again been in good form this season, but Clement Lenglet is not Samuel Umtiti, and the summer arrival from Sevilla still has a lot to prove.

Tottenham will look to Harry Kane to hurt the Catalan giants at Camp Nou, and the England captain will have opportunities during the 90 minutes.

How Kane can hurt Barcelona

The 25-year-old has found the back of the net on 13 occasions in 21 appearances for Tottenham during the 2018-19 campaign.

Four of those goals have come in five Champions League appearances, including one in the 4-2 defeat to Barcelona earlier this season.

Pulling onto Lenglet and allowing Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen to operate in and around Pique will create space for Tottenham in the final third of the field.

Much depends on whether the likes of Moussa Sissoko and Eric Dier can deal with Barcelona's excellent midfield, but Tottenham can hurt Barcelona in the final third.

It is no secret that Barcelona like Kane very much, and the striker will want to give the Spanish giants another reminder of his talents on Tuesday night.
