The Everton ‘transfer’ XI…ouch!

‘Nothing but the best is good enough.’ That’s the meaning of the Everton club motto ‘Nil Satis Nisi Optimum’ that’s proudly displayed on everything to do with their football club. Unfortunately during the Premier League era, that phrase seems to have been rather forgotten by certain managers, who signed players simply not up to the task of living up to Nil Satis Nisi Optimum.

Some fans might not be old enough to remember the dark days of the Toffees, when the season merely consisted of a perennial battle to avoid relegation. Indeed, those fans who use to moan about David Moyes’s inability to get the club back into Europe, prior to his move to United, need to look back and remember what it was like to celebrate a 17th placed finish in the table. The standard of transfers has improved significantly under Moyes, who has an eye for a bargain, in fact, this side could be almost made up of Everton players from the late 1990’s. It’s a tough job selecting the worst Everton signings of the Premier League era, but we’ve had a stab below.
