Tottenham and Arsenal to battle for Belgian star

Ajax defender Toby AlderweireldNorth London rivals Tottenham and Arsenal are set to go head-to-head in the battle for Ajax centre-back Toby Alderweireld, according to reports from SportsDirect News.

The 24-year-old played a key part in the Amsterdam outfit’s Eredivisie-winning 2012/13 campaign, but has been strongly linked with a move away from Holland over the course of the past few weeks.

Liverpool were thought to be the most likely Premier League club to make a concrete move for the Belgian, but their interest has now cooled, leaving the door open for Spurs and Arsenal.

The duo are both said to be attractive options for Alderweireld, with the Gunners able to offer Champions League football and the Lilywhites a realistic chance of regular first-team football.

Tottenham also possess another trump card in the shape of Jan Vertonghen, who is believed to have had a good relationship with his fellow centre-back, whom he spent time playing alongside in Holland.

Although he is valued highly by Ajax, it is believed that if an acceptable offer is received they will not stand in the defender’s way.

Alderweireld has made over 100 appearances for the Dutch giants, as well as winning 24 international caps during his career so far.

Would Toby Alderweireld be better off at Tottenham or Arsenal?
