Tottenham and Everton step up transfer pursuit

Porto winger Christian Atsu

Tottenham and Everton are both ready to step up their attempts to bring Porto winger Christian Atsu to the Premier League, according to the Daily Express.

Liverpool have also been previously credited with an interest in the Ghanaian international, who is likely to be allowed to leave the Portuguese giants this summer.

Reports in Ghana suggest the club have admitted defeat in their attempts to get the 21-year-old to sign a new contract, and will now sell to the highest bidder.

Atsu’s contract is set to expire next season, and it is understood many Premier League clubs were preparing to attempt to sign the winger on a pre-contract agreement as early as next January.

Porto, however, are willing to sell now as this is their only chance of receiving any sort of transfer fee, with Tottenham and the Merseyside duo all ready to submit an offer.

Due to the contract situation, Porto could be willing to listen to offers as low as £1million, although a bidding war for the talented youngster is likely to ensue.

While Liverpool had been mentioned as the favourites for the player’s signature in the past, Tottenham appear to have leapfrogged them now due to the player’s connections with Andre Villas-Boas.

The Tottenham boss worked with Atsu as a young player during his time as Porto manager, and the winger is understood to be keen to link up with his former manager once more.
