Tottenham and Everton target close to Russian move

Ajax Defender Toby Alderweireld

Ajax defender Toby Alderweireld could miss out on a move to the Premier League by joining Spartak Moscow, according to the Metro.

The Belgian, who is a transfer target for Tottenham and Everton, is the subject of a £6million offer from the Russian side.

Spurs are looking to fill the gap in defence left by Steven Caulker, who joined Cardiff, while Everton are keen to bring in a long-term replacement for 35-year-old Sylvain Distin. But Alderweireld may miss out on both clubs after confirming Spartak had made an offer.

“I now understand that they [Spartak] have made Ajax an offer for me.” said the Belgian.

“Only when the clubs are granted permission (to talk to me) will I think.

“I want to focus first on Belgium-France on Wednesday. I’ve always said that I will seriously look at each option. Those who know me, know that I will never choose just for the money but for the image and history of the team.”

The 24-year-old has rejected the opportunity to join Norwich already this summer, and has also been linked with Liverpool. But while Spurs and Everton thought they were leading the race for his signature, it seems that Alderweireld may now be on his way to Russia instead of England.

Alderweireld has just one year left on his contract, with Ajax keen to get a transfer fee for him now before January, where he could then sign a pre-contract and leave on a free transfer.

Who should Aldereirweld join? Everton or Spurs?
