Tottenham Hotspur are looking to sign MK Dons youngster Dele Alli from right under Newcastle United’s noses, according to reports from the Mirror.
The Magpies thought that they had the deal all but completed after agreeing a £5million fee with the Dons last week, but Spurs have now joined the race to sign the 18-year-old.
Aston Villa are also interested in Alli, making an approach last Thursday.
But the Lilywhites have now emerged as favourites to sign the highly rated midfielder, with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy keen on bringing English players to White Hart Lane.
The London club are set for an extremely busy transfer deadline day, with several players likely to leave North London.
Meanwhile Hull City are also close to bringing winger Aaron Lennon on loan, with the England ace finding it difficult to break into the first team playing second fiddle to the likes of Christian Eriksen and Erik Lamela.
