According to reports in The Mirror, West Ham United are interested in a January deal for Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud, and if a move does happen then Tottenham Hotspur should make a controversial move for Marko Arnautovic.

What's the word, then?

Well, The Mirror says that the east London outfit are weighing up another audacious move for the 2018 World Cup winner having held a long-standing interest in the centre-forward, who has less than a year remaining on his contract at Stamford Bridge.

The Mirror says that Manuel Pellegrini is monitoring the situation as he looks to add some real quality to his frontline, and the likelihood would be that he would be a starter for the Irons.

Of course, in the 4-3-3 formation the Chilean boss has preferred in recent weeks this would mean that Arnautovic would relinquish his role and move back out on to the flank – something he may not be happy to do having proven himself as being so effective through the middle.

Why should Tottenham swoop?

While it would be a controversial move considering the poor relationship between the boards of the two clubs and the fact that they are arch-rivals, there is no doubt that the Austria international is good enough to be a star for Spurs.

The 29-year-old would likely have to play out wide primarily – or as cover for Harry Kane at other times – but while that is a similar situation to the one he could find himself in at the London Stadium, he is more likely to be competing for the Premier League title and playing in the Champions League with Tottenham than he is with West Ham as things stand.

It would likely take a huge fee to prise the attacker away, but Daniel Levy shouldn't be afraid to freshen up the north London outfit's attack with a big-money move for Arnautovic.
