11-goal Wijnaldum alternative available to Spurs for bargain £8.3m

Spurs could secure the signature of Yunus Malli from Mainz for a bargain €10m (£8.3m) as their hopes of landing Georginio Wijnaldum fade, with Liverpool in the race, according to reports from Bild.

The Lilywhites have been aligned with the Newcastle ace over the course of the last week, but Liverpool have entered the running for the 25-year-old and are supposedly confident of snapping him up before the end of the week.

Malli, who registered 11 Bundesliga goals and a further four assists last season, has been mooted as an alternative option, and reports claim that the seven-cap Turkey international is available for just £8.3m.

It’s understood that a release clause in his contract means that rival clubs are free to poach the 24-year-old playmaker from Mainz, with the mooted fee some way below the £25m Newcastle want for Wijnaldum.

Malli failed to make the grade as a youngster at Borussia Monchengladbach, but has gone on to register in excess of 100 league appearances for his current side, and is widely seen as one of the more talented attacking midfielders in the BuLi.
