Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld has had lengthy spells on the sidelines with injury but has been a regular feature in the news cycle.
The Belgian is yet to pen fresh terms at the North London outfit, which has led to rumours that he could leave the club.
Spurs fans have made it clear on social media that they want him to stay, but as of now, Alderweireld’s long-term future remains uncertain.
In November, the centre-back picked up a hamstring injury and spent almost three months on the sidelines.
The 29-year-old was welcomed back into Mauricio Pochettino’s team for two games in February, but he has not been seen since due to fitness issues.
Interestingly, Belgium manager Roberto Martinez has confirmed that Alderweireld is fit for this week’s international friendly against Saudi Arabia.
The former Everton boss is quoted by the London Evening Standard as saying:
“Toby Alderweireld is completely fit after a difficult rehabilitation.”
This gives an indication that the defender will be available for Tottenham’s run-in before the end of the season.
