Real Madrid’s courting of Gareth Bale this summer has sent the football world into a frenzy with the Welshman’s status quickly becoming the transfer saga to top all transfer sagas.
Rumour after rumour has infiltrated website after website. The chaotic nature of Bale’s possible move to the Spanish capital has been encapsulated by some of the figures involved in Carlo Ancelotti’s bid for the star. Sky Sports reported last week that this equated to a world record offer of £85million to White Hart Lane.
Andre Villas-Boas has openly criticised Madrid for the public nature of their interest in Bale. Speaking after Tottenham’s 5-2 defeat by Monaco the Portuguese boss stated: “we have seen lots of people speaking about a player that is not theirs and we are due some respect.” However, as time progresses, it looks increasing likely that Madrid will happily smash the world record transfer fee and land their man.
But should AVB feel so hard done by if Bale relocates to Spain? Here is an entire XI who have been bought in this transfer window for the same price that Madrid will need to pay for Bale. While Bale is undoubtedly one of the world’s best players, £85+ million may not be such a bad deal after all.
