Tottenham Hotspur legend Darren Anderton believes that the club can attract the very best players from across the world after opening their new stadium.

Spurs hosted the second test event at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, as it is currently known, on Saturday.

Anderton played in a Spurs legends team against their Inter Milan counterparts and was on the wrong side of a 5-4 defeat.

Nevertheless, the game was played in a carnival atmosphere, as fans soaked in the new stadium before the official opening against Crystal Palace on Wednesday.

And the ground blew Anderton away with the former star, who spent 12 years at the club during his playing days, believing that it can prove a catalyst for Spurs to bring in the very best players.

Speaking in the mixed zone after the game, he said: "The club wants to be one of the best clubs in the world and to do that you have to have one of the best stadiums in the world.

“That's exactly what we need and you want the best players to want to come and play for you and who wouldn't want to play out there every week?"

Spurs have been linked with a number of players ahead of the summer and potential signings are a huge talking point for the supporters, after the club elected not to bring in any new recruits during the last two transfer windows.

Anderton though, with a message that will no doubt delight Lilywhites supporters, seemingly believes that Tottenham now have a stadium that can attract some of the biggest names around to north London.

It's just a matter of whether Daniel Levy is ready to pay for them.
