As reported by The Sun, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Andre Gomes from Barcelona this summer.

What's the story?

Spurs are on the hunt for talent that can help usher in an era of success at the club, after they showed a statement of intent by signing up Mauricio Pochettino and Harry Kane up to new long-term contracts.

One player on their radar is Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes.

That's what The Sun are reporting, saying the man who the La Liga giants signed for £31m is on a list of potential departures from the Nou Camp this summer, as they look to raise cash by selling off fringe players from the first team squad.

The paper reckon that both Spurs and Premier League new boys Wolves are interested in his services.

Is he a player Tottenham should be moving for ahead of the new season?

Should Tottenham sign him?

While there is undoubtedly an allure to signing a player from a successful Barcelona first team squad, Andre Gomes may not quite be the star performer for Spurs that his status might suggest.

The 24-year-old has become very much a bit part player at the La Liga winners and played just 629 minutes of league action last season. Not exactly the kind of glowing form that demonstrates he can transition to the Premier League for a top six side.

As you'd expect from a Barcelona player he has excellent technical ability and could help Spurs with their possession game, but he has little cutting edge in the middle to final thirds.

He's not the next level signing that Tottenham should be in the market for this summer and as such they should avoid diverting resources towards his signature and battle for more exciting targets.
