The Sun report that Tottenham are leading the race to sign the 17-year-old attacking player Leo Da Silva Lopes from Peterborough United with three other clubs also interested in his signature.
According to the report, Spurs, Liverpool, Arsenal and Southampton all sent scouts to watch the youngster as he helped his side beat Bury 3-1 in League One on Saturday afternoon.
Born in Portugal, Da Silva Lopes is one of the most highly-rated players outside of the Premier League at the moment and Peterborough are reportedly resigned to losing the teenager in the relatively near future.
Looking at it, you have to say he could do well at any of the four clubs. Arsenal have a heritage of developing youth players and bringing them through whilst he’d certainly learn a great deal under Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.
There’s also a good case for him to go to the south coast, with Southampton showing how well they can bring young through young stars like Theo Walcott and Gareth Bale. But overall, Spurs may just be his best option.
Of the four clubs reportedly interested, Spurs are the ones most clearly committed to playing young players in their first team and whilst Da Silva Lopes wouldn’t start straight away, he’d surely get a chance under Mauricio Pochettino should he impress in training. Watch this space, then.
