AVB looks for transfer reinforcements at Tottenham

Michael Dawson, Tottenham HotspurTottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas is set to up his pursuit of defensive reinforcements following Michael Dawson’s latest injury blow, according to reports from The Metro.

The commanding English centre-back is set to undergo scans on his leg after a training incident, which has left Spurs short of cover at the back.

AVB has already allowed William Gallas and Steven Caulker to leave the club this summer, and is set to be without Jan Vertonghen for some time after the Belgian suffered an ankle injury.

With Younes Kaboul also battling for fitness, the Portuguese coach was forced to pair Zeki Fryers and Jake Livermore at the heart of his defence for the their 5-2 friendly defeat at the hands of Monaco yesterday.

The Londoners have been linked with Romania ace Vlad Chiriches, but Steaua Bucharest are far from willing to allow the defender to move on.

This may force Villas-Boas to look elsewhere as he desperately searches for cover to avoid a disappointing start to the season.

Meanwhile, the Gareth Bale saga continues to drag on, with Real Madrid said to be unwilling to pay the monstrous fee for the Welshman up front.

Instead, the Spaniards are looking to cut a deal where multiple instalments in the region of £20m are to be paid over a period of time to make up the £80m-£100m asking price.

Do Tottenham need cover? Or should AVB use youngsters until his senior players are fit?
