Bale backs Tottenham to continue charge for Champions League

Gareth Bale Tottenham midfielderTottenham winger Gareth Bale believes that his side can continue their top form and claim a spot in next season’s Champions League.

Spurs are now four points clear of fifth placed Arsenal after claiming a 2-1 victory over Newcastle on Saturday.

Bale, who netted both goals, is hopeful that the Londoners can push on and continue to impress for the rest of the season after missing out a place Europe’s top club competition this season:

“In recent years we have kind of gone off the boil a little at this time of the season but I think the lads have got a lot more confidence.” He is quoted by Sky Sports.

“We have learned from our mistakes from previous years and now we can be a lot stronger going in to the finishing end of the season so I hope we can do it.”

Bale has been in fine form of late, almost single-headedly winning a number of games for Tottenham.

Although he was happy with his performance against Newcastle, he was frustrated to miss out on netting a hat-trick:

“I was absolutely fuming (that I didn’t get a hat-trick),

“I missed a few chances, especially the one with my right foot, but the most important thing was that we got the three points to put the pressure on the teams above us and below.

“I am enjoying my game at the moment and the team is playing well, which always makes it easier.”

There have been rumours circulating that the Welshman may elect to leave White Hart Lane at the end of the season.

La Liga giants Barcelona and Real Madrid have both been linked with a move, whilst Manchester United are also believed to be interested.
