Tottenham Hotspur wasted the chance to close the gap on Inter Milan in their Champions League group as they surrendered a 2-1 lead against PSV Eindhoven to draw 2-2 on Wednesday night.

Defender Toby Alderweireld and goalkeeper Hugo Lloris have to take a big shoulder of the blame with the former's error leading to a goal and the latter getting sent off in the 79th minute with the scoreline at 2-1, but there was also another disappointing display from left-back Ben Davies.

Despite establishing himself as Mauricio Pochettino's first-choice in that position ever since Danny Rose was ruled out through injury towards the end of 2017, the Wales international hasn't been on his game in recent months and has come under fire from his own fans on Twitter for some of his displays.

While right-back Kieran Trippier already has one goal and three assists – including one for Lucas Moura in the Netherlands on Wednesday – so far this term, the 5ft 11in tall Davies is yet to get one of either in his 10 appearances in all competitions.

The 25-year-old has generally been preferred in their club's biggest fixtures in Europe and the Premier League, but Danny Rose is pushing him hard and should now reclaim his role as the first-choice left-back in the coming weeks.

Davies had the worst passing accuracy of any of the Spurs players that started in Eindhoven with a record of 77.4%, as per WhoScored, while from a defensive point of view he failed to make a single tackle, gave away two fouls and made just the one interception.

Meanwhile, from an attacking point of view he also disappointed once again with just one of his four crosses on the night proving to be accurate.

Given his form and judging by this latest showing, the Welshman should be nowhere near the starting XI in the immediate future if Tottenham and Pochettino want to progress this season.
