Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen has been speaking about his future with the north London outfit while away on international duty with Denmark.

The influential 26-year-old has established himself as one of the best players in the Premier League ever since joining Spurs from Ajax in 2013, but he now only has just over 18 months left on his contract with no progress yet being made on an extended deal.

We at Football FanCast take a look at what his comments really meant.

What did he say?

Speaking to Danish media outlet BT, the 27-year-old said:

"I have my agent to take care of it [contract talks] so I can focus on playing football. Then we see in the end where it ends. There have been talks with Tottenham many times.

"I have not felt that they will throw me out yet."

What do his comments really mean?

Well, the Denmark international certainly remained coy on the subject rather than hinting that he would definitely be staying or going.

The fact that he mentioned that there have been talks between the club and his agent "many times" suggest that they aren't close in their negotiations, while he talks about the club not wanting rid of him rather than saying he would like to stay.

The quotes will certainly be a worry to fans should a Barcelona or a Paris Saint-Germain come calling for the talented 26-year-old in the future, but in reality they could be a warning to Daniel Levy that he isn’t willing to back down in order to see his demands met.

Eriksen knows he is in a strong position, as his price tag will only drop more and more if no agreement can be found and he chooses not to commit his future to Tottenham.
