Bid for Tottenham target revealed

Ajax defender Toby Alderweireld

Ajax have confirmed that they have received a bid for Tottenham target Toby Alderweireld, according to The Mirror.

Spurs, who are looking to build a squad capable of finish in the top-four of the Premier League, want to bring the Belgian to White Hart Lane this summer.

Manager Andre Villas-Boas is also keen on signing Alderweireld’s Ajax teammate Christian Eriksen, who has also been linked with Liverpool and it is thought that Spurs are preparing a £15million bid to secure the pair’s signatures.

Ajax’s director of football Marc Overmars announced that the club had received a bid for Alderweireld, who turned down a move to Norwich earlier this summer, but refused to name the club in question

“We have received an offer,” Overmars said.

“We won’t give any names as we are still in talks. But, just like with Norwich City earlier, I expect we can work out a deal with this club. ”

AVB is looking at the Belgian, who can play at both centre-back and right-back, after nearly all of his current defenders picked up injuries in pre-season. Jan Vertonghen is a doubt for the opening match of the new season, while Michael Dawson and Younes Kaboul are both recovering from their respective injuries.

If talks progress quickly, Alderweireld could be a Tottenham player by the time they play their fist match of the new season, away to Crystal Palace on Sunday.

Would Alderweireld be a good signing? Do Spurs fans want Eriksen too?
