Tottenham signed Gedson Fernandes last week but their bid to keep strengthening shows no signs of slowing down, with midfield still seen as a key area that requires improvement.

French newspaper L'Equipe [20/01], via Sport Witness, report that Jose Mourinho has set his sights on Lille's Boubakary Soumaré, with the likes of Newcastle and Wolves also paying attention to the 20-year-old.

However, it is also suggested that Soumare is thought to be keen on staying in France beyond the end of the month, and therefore any potential deal may have to be arranged for the end of the season, as opposed to this month.

Some fans are supportive of the move whenever it takes place, as they believe the opportunity to add quality to the squad should not be missed.

Soumare may be young but he has already amassed an impressive 64 appearances for Lille, which includes six games in the Champions League this term where he averaged one tackle and two interceptions per game.

The big fat Tottenham quiz of 2019 - how much do you remember about the last year at Spurs?

That shows his quality, and a couple of supporters have likened his style to former player Mousa Dembele, someone the team has missed a little since the match against Watford was the first away league clean sheet they have recorded since the Belgian's departure last January.

Others aren't as happy, however, and don't expect much to come of this proposed move. Harry Kane's injury means that one fan thinks signing a striker should be high on Mourinho's agenda, not pursuing another midfielder.

Elsewhere, Spurs fans have been reacting to a very interesting update from Mourinho regarding one player.
