Championship giants eye Tottenham star

Tottenham forward Jermain DefoeQPR boss Harry Redknapp is planning an audacious raid on his former club for Jermain Defoe, according to reports from The Mirror.

The ex-Tottenham coach is keen to assemble a squad capable of bouncing straight back into the Premier League, following last season’s relegation to the second tier.

He sees Defoe as the ideal man to provide the firepower he needs, and is hopeful that he can persuade the England international to drop down a division.

The imminent arrival of Roberto Soldado – plus the prospect of a Spurs spending spree if Gareth Bale does move to Real Madrid – could limit the 30-year-old’s first-team opportunities next term.

‘Arry is hopeful that this, allied with the pair’s close personal relationship, may be enough to allow him to pull off a stunning deal.

Ahead of his side’s opening game of the Championship season, Redknapp said that he has ambitious plans and the backing to make them a reality:

“I am going to put together a team that will excite people.

“I am trying to bring players in who will blow people’s minds. I have got the backing of the board to do that, and we are moving on from last season.”

Would a move to QPR benefit Jermain Defoe?
