Jack Clarke is set to undergo his Tottenham Hotspur medical this week as the club close in on the signing of the Leeds United winger, per Whites journalist Phil Hay.

What’s the word?

Clarke has been heavily linked with a move to north London this summer and it now appears that the deal is close to completion.

Hay, who has previously covered Leeds for the Yorkshire Evening Post, reports that the player travelled to the capital for a medical on Wednesday.

The two clubs have agreed a fee of around £10m for the 19-year-old, who made his first-team breakthrough at Leeds in 2018/19.

He made a total of 25 appearances in all competitions, scoring two goals and registering two assists, with Leeds agreeing to a clause that gives them first option to take the teenager on loan should Spurs decide to send him away on a short-term deal.

The first of many

This has to be just the start for Spurs.

They haven’t signed a new player since January 2018 and there has to be a flurry of new arrivals this summer.

Clarke is a fine start but he isn’t likely to truly influence the first-team next season and Mauricio Pochettino needs to refresh a squad that reached the Champions League final in spite of the club’s limited investment.

Separate reports claim that a deal for Tanguy Ndombele, the coveted Lyon midfielder, is close to completion and that may well turn out to be a far more important transfer.

Provided Clarke’s deal is the first, instead of the only, Spurs fans should be very excited about the future.
