Tottenham Hotspur full-back Danny Rose is eyeing a move to Ligue 1 giants Marseille before the European transfer deadline on Friday, The Daily Star reports.

What's the word?

Struggling for opportunities at Tottenham under Mauricio Pochettino, England international Danny Welbeck is heavily linked with an exit to join a European side before the transfer window on the continent slams shut at the end of the week.

The 28-year-old has been linked with the likes of Schalke and Paris Saint-Germain but The Daily Star says both moves are off the table, with Rose's future instead looking set to be in the hands of Ligue 1 giants Marseille.

Rose is seeking a transfer away from the Premier League in order to retain his spot in Gareth Southgate's England squad for the upcoming internationals, heaving featured heavily for the Three Lions in their push to the World Cup semi-finals in Russia.

Yet to feature for Spurs this season, Rose's position is under threat but a move to the continent could hand him the spark to retain his position as England's first-choice down the left side of the defence.

Should he move?

English players are often reluctant to move abroad due to the perceived dominance of the Premier League other over European leagues but that stance has changed in the past few years, with a flurry of younger talents moving to clubs on the continent.

Rose could follow in their footsteps and set a pass for other experienced England players who are struggling for opportunities to wave goodbye to the Premier League and it is an opportunity that he should definitely not pass by.

At 28, the Doncaster-born defender is in the peak years of his career and has the capability of starting for England at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar but he needs first-team opportunities to do so, which look unlikely to be handed to him by Pochettino.

While Marseille do not have the same lure as Ligue 1 rivals PSG, and cannot offer Champions League football, the defeated Europa League finalists could still provide Rose with exactly what he needs for the season ahead.
