Michael Dawson has likened Tottenham team-mate Gareth Bale to Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
He netted his 20th goal of the season during Sunday’s North London derby win over Arsenal, leading some to liken him to the Real Madrid and Barcelona duo.
Dawson has echoed such comparisons, suggesting that Bale is just as good as the pair, who are widely regarded as the best players in world football:
“Gaz is up there with Ronaldo and Messi in terms of ability – he’s one of the best players in the world at the moment, and probably the best in the world for me right now,” he is quoted by Sky Sports.
“Some of the things he does would have made Ronaldo blush. His goal this season against Norwich where he picked the ball up in his own half and dribbled past all those players before having the calm and composure to put in the bottom corner… He’s been brilliant and credit to him.”
Whilst Bale has been stealing the headlines of late, Tottenham’s rise up the table is also thanks to the work of the club’s defensive players.
Dawson has recently forced himself back into the first-team, playing alongside Jan Vertonghen at the heart of the Londoners’ backline.
The four-time England international also believes that his fellow centre-back is one of the best in the business:
“He has been brilliant from day one,” Dawson said of Vertonghen, who snubbed Arsenal to move to Spurs last summer for £10milllion.
“He’s a great centre-half and a top guy.
“He has everything in his game. He wants to play, his feet are unbelievable, he can score goals and you saw the kind of tackles he can make.”
