Eric Dier showed how useful he can be for Tottenham Hotspur as they went on to beat Burnley 5-0 on Saturday.

On the chalkboard

He was a solid presence in the midfield for Jose Mourinho's side, alongside Moussa Sissoko, making various effective defensive contributions.

This is shown by the fact that he made three clearances and two interceptions, as well as completing three of the four tackles that he attempted throughout the game.

The England international, who is rated at £27m by Transfermarkt, also won five of the seven aerial duels that he contested in the match.

In addition, he was influential on the ball, as he held 5.8% of the game's overall possession, which was more than any other midfielder or attacker on the pitch.

Proving his worth

It can be suggested that Dier perhaps isn't fully trusted by Mourinho, having been left on the bench against Manchester United, as well as being taken off after just 29 minutes against Olympiacos.

While it was a comfortable win for Spurs against Burnley, meaning the 25-year-old was under less pressure than would be the case in a big game, he took the opportunity to impress.
