Tottenham returned to winning ways against Norwich on Wednesday and Christian Eriksen featured once again despite rumours suggesting that his exit from the club looks likely.

He had an eventful game as he was booed by fans after being brought on, and fellow substitute Eric Dier came to his defence after the match.

It is easy to see where the England international is coming from. Few Spurs players have provided the quality and consistency Eriksen has shown over the last few years and he has been ever-present in the club's improvement over the years with 305 appearances.

The Denmark international has been their main creative outlet in that time with 89 assists, while also popping up with goals each season, recording 69 in total.

As a result, some Tottenham supporters are grateful for the 27-year-old and agree with Dier that he doesn't deserve such treatment from a section of the fanbase, even if he has looked far from his best this term, averaging a WhoScored rating of 6.5.

There is another side of the argument, however, and it relates to Eriksen's drop off in performance and effort, with a belief that the midfielder has downed tools since the summer with the aim of forcing a move away from the club.

Fans have been critical of the former Ajax man this term, and therefore any defence of the player is unlikely to be received well.

In response to Dier's comments some supporters have turned their focus of anger at him instead, suggesting he should be booed too, with one individual calling for the 26-year-old to be transfer listed.
