Chelsea youngster Ethan Ampadu produced a second successive impressive display on the international stage in the space of a few days for Wales as they fell to a 2-0 defeat against Denmark on Sunday.

The 17-year-old may have struggled to break into Maurizio Sarri's squad in the Premier League so far this season, but it has been a completely different story for his country where he has started the games against the Republic of Ireland and the Scandanavian outfit during the current international break.

The talented 6ft tall teenager was handed a defensive midfield role by Ryan Giggs despite primarily being a centre-back, and he has shown his class both in terms of his defensive contribution and his distribution while on the ball – even if he did give away a penalty against the Danes at the weekend.

It was revealed earlier this year that Chelsea will only have to pay League Two side Exeter City up to £2.5m for Ampadu after the deal that brought him to Stamford Bridge was decided by a tribunal, and they are already looking as though they have got themselves a bargain.

Chelsea starlet Ethan Ampadu's stats for Wales vs Denmark

Having signed Dele Alli from the lower leagues previously, Tottenham Hotspur looked to have a real eye for talent in the Football League, but they will surely be kicking themselves that they missed out on the accomplished 17-year-old, who had a passing accuracy of 90% against Denmark and showed his quality on the ball by successfully completing seven long balls.

The fact that he can play at centre-back or in defensive midfield means he would have been ideal for Spurs, and not bringing him to north London could prove to be one of Mauricio Pochettino's biggest regrets in the long run.
