Spurs’ recruitment in the non-Football Manager world (or reality, as some like to call it) has been excellent in the past few seasons. Picking up players who fit the profile of their squad has helped Mauricio Pochettino build the most formidable Lilywhites side in recent memory.

That makes Football Manager 17 a little different in a Spurs save. Previously, the top four was the holy grail and you were secure for years if you could have a little flirt with the Champions League.

On 17, things are a little different. Expectations are higher, your squad is young and the sky really is the limit. Just to make it that bit more exciting, too, there is a fair bit of money floating around at the club.

Continuing the theme of recent Spurs investment obviously isn’t a requirement, but signing wonderkids is always a lot of fun anyway. Picking up a player as a teen and watching them blossom into a world beater is a special kind of Football Manager joy...

Christian Pulisic

Pulisic FM

One of the hottest prospects in world football, Pulisic’s ability on FM17 is befitting of the talent that he has already shown for Borussia Dortmund.

Within a couple of seasons he often becomes unhappy at the German club, making him a real bargain. If you don’t want to take that risk, throw the cash at the young American early on in your save and you will reap some sensational rewards.

Luka Jovic

Jovic FM

Benfica may be reluctant to let one of their hottest prospects go, but Jovic is worthy of your investment.

Keep him fit, give him minutes and he will become the perfect alternative to Harry Kane that you have been scouring the world for. Pace, a good first touch and – eventually – clinical finishing make Jovic a hero of FM17.

Carlos Soler

Soler FM

At first glance, Soler may look like an ordinary 19-year-old Spaniard. He is, rest assured, a far greater player than that.

For a minute investment, watch his already decent tackling and passing stats grow. A loan could be the best way to nurture Soler initially, but he would certainly have a future in your Spurs side.

Ianis Hagi

Hagi FM

In Spurs’ long-term hunt for a right winger to compete with Erik Lamela, they landed on Moussa Sissoko.

Sissoko has his uses on FM17, particularly if you want to play a direct game, but Ianis Hagi could be the man to fill the void by the time you reach the latter stages of your second season. A wide creator by nature, Hagi would slot well into Spurs’ narrow attacking midfield trio.

Emre Mor

Emre Mor FM

The second Borussia Dortmund star to feature on this list is Emre Mor. The Turkish winger begins the game with frankly concerning work rate, which may be off putting if you wish to replicate Pochettino’s pressing.

If not, Mor is your man. Most natural on the right wing and with the potential to become a worldwide star, he’s a damn better option than Moussa Sissoko.
