Football fans rage at controversial Dele Alli

Dele Alli is earning himself a reputation he really doesn’t want.

There’s no doubting his talent but while he currently goes through a difficult run of form, he has found himself involved in a string of controversies, none of which have found himself in trouble by referees or via retrospective action by the FA.

From a nasty challenge on Kevin De Bruyne a couple of weeks ago to a dive to win a penalty against Burnley to an elbow in the face of an opponent against Southampton on Boxing Day, Alli really is becoming one of the most hated players in the Premier League.

It’s frustrating, too. When the likes of Oumar Niasse and Manuel Lanzini are harshly handed retrospective bans for winning penalties already this season, fans all over the world are wondering why Dele Alli continues to get away with similar crimes and dangerous, spiteful challenges.

The laws do need to be changed and until they do, the likes of Dele Alli will continue to get away with such behaviour while others at the so-called lesser clubs will continue to be punished for similar crimes…

Boxing Day is a truly wonderful time: the sales start, the nightmare of an extended period of confinement with your family is all but over, and there’s a full flight of Premier League fixtures to look forward to.
