Tottenham Hotspur have agreed to take part in the Barclays Asia Trophy in pre-season, and defender William Gallas is excited at the prospect of competing in Asia, according to the official Spurs website.
Gallas has noted that the team will be dedicated to entertaining their overseas fan-base in Hong Kong when they return to play in the trophy, which was successfully won in July 2009’s Far East pre-season tour. Now, Andre Villas-Boas has a chance to take his new look team to another Asia Trophy.
“It’s very good that we go to Asia,” said Gallas.
“Some of our players don’t know that continent, so a trip there will be good for them. I’m sure they will look forward to it, to see how the people live, to see Hong Kong and that it will be a fantastic tournament.
“Even though it’s a pre-season tournament, it’s always good to test yourselves against teams like Manchester City and Sunderland, to be ready for next season. It will also be interesting to play South China, to see their level.
“Tottenham is a big club and I know people in China and across Asia start to know us. We will want to show people how we play, and how good we are.”
The tournament will take place between July 24-27 in Hong Kong’s National Stadium against Premier League rivals Manchester City, Sunderland and local team South China FC.
