According to reports Gareth Bale will sign a new contract at the club in the near future but may still be leaving in 12 months.
Reports in the London Evening Standard claim that the multi award-winning Wales international will sign a new deal worth around £130,000 this week, despite the fact that the north Londoners missed out on Champions League football next season.
It would be a massive bonus to Spurs fans if that were to be the case as Bale’s retention would help in player recruitment for manager Andre Villas-Boas but the report adds that he will be allowed to leave in 12 months’ time – if a suitor were to come in with a £50m offer.
Chairman Daniel Levy said at the weekend: “Looking ahead to the summer, we shall continue to seek to strengthen and improve the team and to retain key players.”
