Hamsik would be great replacement if Dele Alli was to leave Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur should consider making a move for Napoli midfielder Marek Hamsik if Dele Alli ends up leaving the club.

What’s the word?

There are no concrete suggestions that Alli is edging towards the exit door this summer, but a recent interview may have caused concern for some fans.

While speaking to ES Magazine, the England international said “never say never” when asked about potentially playing for another club.

Alli has gone from strength to strength since moving to the North London club from MK Dons in 2016.

Despite being just 22 years of age, the midfielder is a regular first-team member in Mauricio Pochettino’s team, as well as a fully fledged England international.

While having a player of Alli’s quality within the ranks is hugely beneficial for Tottenham, there is also a risk that he will get his head turned one day.

If so, who should Spurs swoop for?

There are numerous top-class talents that could potentially fill Alli’s role at Tottenham, and one of those is Hamsik, who is valued at £31.5m by Transfermarkt.

The Slovakian international has more experience than the current Spurs star and he has enjoyed more success having won three cups with Napoli.

The 30-year-old has the qualities that would fit into Pochettino’s system, and he is known for being able to pick out a pass – something that Alli has not yet perfected.

Last season, Hamsik made 49 appearances in all competitions, scoring seven goals and creating three assists for the Italian outfit.

In a perfect world, Alli would stay put and Tottenham would not even need to consider alternatives, but if for some reason, the young star opted to leave this summer, Hamsik should certainly be under consideration.
