Chelsea are reportedly chasing Bayer Leverkusen wonderkid Leon Bailey, but Tottenham can atone for their slow summer by hijacking the move.

What's the story?

According to The Evening Standard, Chelsea will battle it out with Roma to sign Jamaican youth star Bailey.

The 20 year-old’s agent and father spoke about a potential move, calling Roma’s interest an honour that they must listen to.

The Leverkusen winger had an absolutely electric season as part of the German outfit’s impressive young attack, and Maurizio Sarri will be hoping he can have a similar impact in London.

The Blues were uninspiring to say the least last season, and signing a young, pacey winger to light up their attack would certainly liven things up a bit.

Tottenham simply must throw their hat in the ring though, as Bailey is truly a one of a kind player, and has the potential to force his way into Spurs’ incredible attack.

Mauricio Pochettino wants some fresh talent to liven up the places supporting Harry Kane this summer, and Bailey could become a superstar under the Argentine’s tutelage.

What's all the fuss about?

Bailey, valued at £40.5m by Transfermarkt, scored twelve times and added six assists last season, wowing spectators in Germany with his pace, skill, crossing and rocket of a left foot.

It’s not often you get a player capable of running just as fast with the ball as he does without it, but Bailey is just that. The closest comparison one could make is probably Ousmane Dembele due to their electric and direct dribbling style, which is a compliment of the highest order.

The 20 year-old is capable of playing from either wing, and his fantastic passing and crossing separates him for other players of his ilk. There are millions of pacey but brain-dead wingers out there, and Bailey’s composure to pick his head up and find the right pass puts him a cut above them all, averaging two key passes and 2.3 successful crosses per game last season.

As well as his electric dribbling, fantastic crossing and surprising maturity, the youngster knows how to stick the ball in the net as well, including one stunning back-heel goal last season.

All in all, 20 year-old Bailey whips in wonderful crosses, burns full backs for fun, always makes the right decision and has the versatility that Pochettino expects from all his players.

If Spurs can pip Chelsea to his signature, there is absolutely no way Harry Kane will fall behind Mohamed Salah in the golden boot race with the likes of Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli and Bailey causing mayhem around him.
