Tottenham Hotspur left-back Ben Davies has established himself as a mainstay in the team under Mauricio Pochettino over the course of the last 12 months or so, but the tide might be starting to turn for the 25-year-old.

The Welshman often got the nod over Danny Rose in the Premier League and the important matches in particular last term even after the England international returned from injury, impressing from both a defensive and an attacking point of view.

With first-team minutes hard to come by and following his controversial outburst to The Sun last summer, it seemed that the 28-year-old, who reportedly earns £65,000-a-week according to The Independent, would almost certainly be on his way out of the club this summer.

However, any exit failed to materialise and with the north London outfit not making a single signing themselves during the transfer window, that was probably something of a relief for Pochettino as his players will be fighting on a number of fronts in the coming weeks and months.

While Rose was only named on the substitutes' bench for the 3-1 win against Fulham last month, he was then handed what was probably a surprise start ahead of Davies for the impressive 3-0 success against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

That choice suggested that he is coming back into Pochettino's plans, and a disappointing Davies display at left wing-back at Vicarage Road on Sunday means that the Yorkshire-born player looks to now have a serious chance of finding himself in the XI on a regular basis from now on.

The Wales international failed to make an impact in the final third for Spurs, and he should now be fearing for his spot for the visit of table-toppers Liverpool after the international break.
