It looked as though it could be a huge 2018/19 campaign for 21-year-old Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Luke Amos as he starred for the north London outfit during pre-season.

The youngster showed against quality opposition such as AS Roma the ability that he has in the middle of the park, and with the likes of Mousa Dembele and Eric Dier returning to action late following their exploits with Belgium and England respectively at the 2018 World Cup is Russia, it seemed as though he was going to get an opportunity.

That hope would have increased when he made the 18-man squad for the opening day Premier League victory against Newcastle United at St James' Park, even coming off of the substitutes' bench to make his top flight debut for the final two minutes.

However, Amos has failed to make the squad since with Pochettino sticking with the more experienced Dier, Dembele, Moussa Sissoko and Victor Wanyama, even during an unprecedented three-match losing streak for the Argentine boss since he took the helm of the north London club.

It seems quite apparent that following the defeats to Watford – in which Dembele was destroyed on Twitter by his own fans – Liverpool and Inter Milan that Dier and Dembele perhaps look a little fatigued and need a rest, with a trip to Brighton and Hove Albion this weekend followed by hosting Watford in the Carabao Cup next week perhaps the perfect opportunity to do that.
