The 26 year-old has racked up 57 goals and 71 assists in 232 appearances for Tottenham, but he has just seemed slightly off the pace so far this season.

Given that Lucas Moura is in the form of his life, Son Heung-min is riding a wave of positivity after his international heroics and Dele Alli has now returned from injury, could Eriksen use a rest for the next couple of games?

Spurs face Watford in the League Cup before a visit to struggling Huddersfield, and a few games on the sidelines could be just what the fan favourite playmaker needs to get back to his best before the clash with Barcelona.
