Tottenham face a gruelling campaign ahead as they fight to retain their top-four position in the Premier League and look to spark life back into their Champions League campaign.
Two consecutive defeats to Inter Milan and Barcelona on the European stage leave Spurs’ ambitions at risk of going up in smoke, while there is also continued concern regarding the reliance on star striker Harry Kane.
Reports suggest Mauricio Pochettino is looking to provide further depth to his attacking ranks in January with a move for Beijing Guoan forward Cedric Bakambu, who boasts an impressive record of 19 goals in 21 matches for the Chinese side.
However, the DR Congo international only moved to the Far East earlier this year for a fee reported to be a whopping £65m and Tottenham would likely have to offer a similar sum to bring the 27-year-old back to European football.
Therefore, moving for the striker is not a wise move on Pochettino’s behalf and a more suitable, affordable target should be prioritised.
