Tottenham have been heavily linked with a move for Tanguy Ndombele, but should they change plan after Mateo Kovacic handed in a transfer request at Real Madrid?

According to Spanish reports, Kovacic has asked to leave Real Madrid this summer.

The 24 year-old Croatian international is fantastic with the ball at his feet, but has found opportunities limited at Madrid thanks to the presence of Toni Kroos and Luka Modric.

The wiry midfielder’s ball carrying abilities could replace the skillset of the departing Mousa Dembele at Tottenham, but it seems Mauricio Pochettino has already got his Dembele replacement lined up.

Fans were delighted by reports they had officially started negotiations for Ndombele, and apart from just their names sounding similar, the young Frenchman is an almost perfect replacement for Spurs’ Belgian beast.

Despite the Frenchman’s potential though, there is still a lot of fine-tuning to be done to make him a top player. Kovacic on the other hand is already a top player, just waiting to explode.

Ndombele offers more defensively than the Croatian, who is valued at £27m by Transfermarkt, but the latter is far better going forward, and with Eric Dier and Victor Wanyama already in North London Pochettino should opt for the more forward thinking player.
