In Focus: Tottenham Hotspur should rebuff Inter Milan’s move for Lamela

Inter Milan are interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur star Erik Lamela on loan, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

What’s the word?

After 13 months of injury woe, the Argentine is finally back to fitness, but as expected, his game time has been limited in order to ease back into action.

Lamela has made eight Premier League appearances so far this season, and only two were from the starting spot.

In fact, the attack-minded player, who had multiple operations on his hips during the injury layoff, is yet to play a full 90 minutes.

Gazzetta dello Sport claims that Inter want to give Lamela opportunities to play regular football.

The club’s technical adviser Walter Sabatini is already familiar with the Argentine having signed him for Roma, where he played between 2011 and 2013.

Should Tottenham consider it?

Lamela’s lengthy spell on the sidelines suggest that he will play a bit-part role for the rest of the season at Spurs.

Sending a player out on loan can sometimes be beneficial for both parties as it builds up fitness.

However, Lamela has proven that he adds extra creativity when on the pitch, and that is something that manager Mauricio Pochettino may need to call upon as the campaign progresses.

If the Argentine wants to win back a regular place in the Tottenham team, then leaving on loan will hinder that.

Lamela has featured in every league game since his return to fitness, so even though he is making cameo appearances, Pochettino certainly needs the 25-year-old.
