Tottenham Hotspur are among a number of Premier League clubs interested in signing Norwich City midfielder James Maddison, according to the London Evening Standard.

What's the story?

The 21-year-old is said to be highly-rated among top clubs in England due to his performances for the Canaries.

This season the young midfielder, who moved to Carrow Road from Coventry in February 2016, has scored seven goals so far.

The London Evening Standard reports that Tottenham, along with Manchester City, Liverpool and Leicester City are keeping tabs on Maddison.

The report clams that Norwich would prefer not to let the youngster leave this month, but they would consider a bid in the region of £20m.

It is believed that Spurs could be willing to loan him back to Norwich for the rest of the season if a deal is struck before the end of January.

Are Tottenham the right fit?

For young players, when big clubs come in for them, it can be exciting but also daunting.

If Maddison ends up having the choice of Spurs, Liverpool and Manchester City, it could be a decision that shapes his entire career.

Tottenham are an attractive option given how manager Mauricio Pochettino has shaped some of the young talent at the North London outfit.

Dele Alli is a fine example given that he has become an integral member of the team, as well as a fully fledged England international, in just two-and-a-half years.

Maddison will have the knowledge that Pochettino would ideally like the midfielder to follow in Alli's path.

If the youngster knuckles down and gets to grip with what is asked of him, then there is no reason why he cannot thrive at Tottenham.
