Tottenham Hotspur defender Davinson Sanchez has claimed that he is not motivated by money amid rumours of Real Madrid interest, reports The Express.

What's the word?

The Colombian international has only been at Spurs for six months following his summer move from Ajax that cost a reported £42m.

Since becoming part of Mauricio Pochettino's team, the 21-year-old has made 30 appearances in all competitions.

Time will tell whether or not Sanchez will maintain a regular place in the team now that Toby Alderweireld is fit to play.

However, it seems that the former Ajax player has not been distracted by rumours of a Real Madrid move.

The Express quotes Sanchez as saying:

“I do not think about money or where it is. Right now, here in Tottenham I am very good. I am playing every three to four days. I am being important in the team. As big as Madrid is, no matter how big a team are, that has won what they have won, if the conditions are not favourable for me, unfortunately I cannot accept."

How should Spurs fans take these comments?

In the modern game, transfer fees and wages are staggering, particularly in the so-called 'bigger' clubs of the Premier League and around Europe.

It is very easy for players to get lured in with the offer of a ludicrous salary, so Sanchez's comments will be welcomed.

The Colombian has suggested that his main priority is regular football, which is something that he may not receive at the Bernabeu.

Even though Tottenham supporters should be pleased with what they have heard from the defender, the course of a footballer's career can change drastically.

If Sanchez falls down the pecking order, he may seek pastures new, whether that is Real Madrid or elsewhere.
